Researchers Develop Technology for Better and Cheaper LED Light Bars

Researchers from a well-known US university have developed a new method that will paved the way for better LED light bars, as well as LEDs for smart phones and general use. According to reports, the research team from Princeton University used their expertise in nanotechnology to develop a system that would remarkably increase the performance of LED lights.

Stephen Chou, electrical engineering professor at Princeton and leader of the research team, explained that PlaCSH (plasmonic cavity with subwavelength hole array), the new nanotechnology structure they have developed, will help improve the brightness, intensity, and clarity of LEDs made from organic materials. He added that it could also produce similar results in LEDs made from inorganic or silicon-based materials, which are widely used today. "New nanotechnology can change the rules of the ways we manipulate light. We can use this to make devices with unprecedented performance," he said.

Although they are widely known for their energy efficiency and excellent light output, today's LEDs, including those used in light bars in trucks, 4WDs, and other motor vehicles, actually have design challenges. One of these challenges is to reduce the amount of light that gets trapped inside the LED's structure. Not only it makes the LED look dim and less energy efficient, the trapped light also heats the LED, thus, helping reduce its lifespan.

But with Chou's PlaCSH, users could achieve better light extraction with LEDs. According to the researchers, this technology can increase the efficiency of light extraction to 60%, which is 57% higher than conventional high-end organic LEDs. At the same time, PlaCSH can also improve clarity in ambient light by 400%. And more importantly, it can help address the heating problem caused by the light trapped in standard LEDs.

With great things shaping up for the LED industry, now is indeed a great time to switch to more energy efficient lighting devices for your vehicle. By choosing LED lights over conventional lighting devices, like halogen lamps for instance, you can get better results, excellent light output, and durability, which allow you to save more money in the long run because you don't have to buy replacements as frequently as before.

Sure, some might argue that LEDs might be more expensive than conventional lights now. But with Professor Chou and other experts creating and developing more ways to improve the efficiency and performance of LEDs, prices of LED light bar 4x4 and other similar devices will continue to drop, making LEDs more accessible to each and every car owner.

Simple Ways to Prevent Your LED Light Bar from Overheating and Suffering from Premature Dimming

It is no secret that an LED light bar is longer-lasting and more durable than the average halogen lamp or factory headlight. If you're going to look at the LED lights being sold today, you'll see that most, if not all, of them are being marketed with a guarantee that they can last up to 50,000 hours of continuous use or more. This is one of the reasons why these lighting devices are a must-have, not only among ordinary car owners, but also those who regularly go on 4WD tours and competitions.

Despite their extreme durability and long life, LED lights are not immune to damage if they are not taken care of properly. When the LED light bulbs are prone to overheating, they can and will burn out prematurely. If you don't want this to happen, you have to make sure that your auxiliary lighting devices are always in excellent condition.

There are several ways to prevent your LED lights from overheating easily. First, you have to make sure that the lights are installed in a place where their air vents are not obstructed. Otherwise, the heat generated by the light bulbs won't be able to escape, thus, causing hot air to get trapped inside the device's casing. If this situation persists, it is very likely that you won't be able to make the most of the 50,000 hours life time promised to you by the LED manufacturer since the hot air can damage the electrical components of the light bars, causing them to fail prematurely.

LED lights for cars and 4WDs are not self-cleaning. Therefore, it is your responsibility to clean these devices from time to time to remove accumulated dust and debris that could potentially block the air vents. This will help cool down the light bars and prevent them from overheating easily.

In some instances, LED owners experience premature dimming of their lighting devices. It is because LEDs are sometimes affected by electrical power surges, as their individual semiconductors are extremely sensitive to voltage fluctuations. To prevent premature dimming, you should avoid switching the lighting devices on and off in rapid succession. When you turn off your LEDs, you should wait several minutes before turning it on again.

Always remember that proper care and attention is the key to a long-lasting CREE LED light bar. If you don't want your lighting devices to overheat easily or suffer from premature dimming, be sure to follow the pointers discussed above.

Are LED Work Lights and Driving Lights Any Good?

LED work lights and driving lights are a huge help for certain people, particularly those who operate trucks, heavy machinery, UTEs, off road vehicles, and 4WDs. However, not all people share the same opinion. After all, people are not the same. What may be useful for some may not be useful for others. But are LED lights any good? As a vehicle owner, should you install such an auxiliary lighting device in your vehicle?

Some motorists complain that LED lights are a nuisance. According to them, they experience temporary blindness or feel slightly disoriented whenever they meet a truck or a vehicle with its LEDs on full power on the road. Such incidents are actually dangerous because as a driver, being disoriented for a very small amount of time can potentially lead to an accident that can cause injuries or even fatalities. Aside from this, some motorists also complain of irresponsible vehicle owners who mount light bars on bull bars, which, according to the authorities, can cause serious injuries in the event of collisions.

But if you're going to take a closer look at the situations above, you'll realise that the light bars are not actually the ones at fault. It is the vehicle owner or driver who is causing the problem. If you're going to drive a vehicle with high intensity LED lights installed in them in areas with high traffic, common road courtesy dictates that you switch off your LEDs or turn them down to avoid causing temporary blindness to pedestrians and your fellow motorists.

Prior to installation, you should check federal legislation or with the authorities to determine the proper and lawful placement of auxiliary lighting devices on vehicles to avoid causing problems to yourself and other people.

Another common issue or controversy with the use of LEDs is that sometimes, consumers don't actually get what they are paying for. Just this year, British tabloid the Daily Mail claimed that one in four expensive "long-life" LEDs don't last anything as long as the makers' claim. Based on a test conducted by a local watchdog, the newspaper revealed that the LEDs don't even meet the EU's minimum standard of 6,000 hours, despite claims on the packaging of 15,000 hours and even 25,000 hours of life.

This hurdle can easily be overcome by doing a bit of research. If you're going to buy a LED light bar, don't rely on price alone. Make sure you get it from a reliable source and that source has a good track record of providing quality lighting devices. This way, you can be sure that you'll get exactly what you're paying for.

Overall, LEDs are good lighting devices for a variety of motor vehicles. But it is always up to the vehicle owner to use them properly and responsibly.

How Buying an LED Light Bar Can Help 4WD Owners Save Money

If there's one car accessory you need to buy for your 4WD, it's got to be an LED light bar. With your frequent trips to unfamiliar locations and driving in unpaved and tough terrain, it makes perfect sense to invest in a lighting device that can help you navigate your way easily. LEDs can definitely make a great driving companion for 4WD enthusiasts like you as they make each trip a much safer and enjoyable experience.

However, some vehicle owners are reluctant to purchase light bars with LED light bulbs, thinking that they will have to shell out huge amounts of money. Sure, these lighting devices are relatively more expensive than ordinary halogen or even HID lights. But what many car owners don't realise is that investing in LEDs can save them a lot of money in the long run. Here's how installing LED lights can help you maximise your savings.

Newer 4WDs have more fragile electrical system as compared to older models. If you install a high current halogen lighting system in such vehicles, it will create current spikes that can damage the car's ECU or trip out other electrical components in the vehicle. This is something you can avoid with an LED light bar.

LEDs draw little current so it is very unlikely that they will cause the same spiking issues as halogen spotlights when you switch them on and off. This can save you money since it allows you to avoid costly car repairs that can put a huge dent on your budget. As such, if you own a newer model of 4WD, it is advisable that you purchase light bars with LED light bulbs to avoid tripping out the electrical system of your vehicle.

Because they are usually driven off-road and in rough and uneven terrain, 4WDs are constantly exposed to the elements and extreme vibration. If you're going to buy cheap lighting devices for your 4WD, you'll definitely regret your decision. While it is true that you can save a lot of money now, you won't be able to do the same thing in the future, unless you have an LED light bar.

An LED light bar usually has diecast aluminium housing with toughened glass. This enables the lighting device to function well even under extreme conditions and to survive the 4WD's constant vibration. In addition, this lighting device has higher waterproof rating as compared to ordinary halogen lamps, ensuring that no drop of water can get into the light bar even if you drive your vehicle in puddles, mud, or through the rain. This quality makes it a good LED work light that is also suitable for boats, heavy equipment, and service vehicles. And with the LED's over 30,000 hours of life time, you can definitely save huge amounts of money since you don't have to buy a replacement immediately.

Car Owners Advised to Follow Australian Standards when Installing LED Light Bars and Other Accessories

If you're going to install LED light bars in your vehicle, make sure you follow proper guidelines, especially if you live in Western News South Wales. Members of the region's Highway Patrol said they are conducting stricter inspections amid reports of the growing number of car owners who install dangerous "bling" in front of their vehicles.

Australian safety standards forbid sharp or ragged edges on bullbars and any attachment or protrusion that projects forward of the bumper bar as they may endanger pedestrians and other road users. This is the reason why many car owners across the country are being careful when choosing placements for their light bars and other types of auxiliary lights, as well as external accessories on their vehicles. However, it seems that some car owners in the city of Dubbo have missed the memo.

While it is true that many car owners in Dubbo are not placing LED light bars in their vehicle in a way that could hurt pedestrians, the same thing cannot be said for those who attach fishing rod holders to their car's bumper. Police said Dubbo, which is located about 303 kilometres northwest of Sydney, has a huge number of vehicles with illegal "five poster" bullbars.

Pedestrian Council of Australia Chairman Harold Sruby said the police and government had not done enough to weed out illegal bullbars in the country. "They are giant things, weighing about half a ton; they are very, very sharp," he added, describing the "dreaded" five poster bullbars. Amid these criticisms, NSW Highway Safety Patrol inspectors are more than likely to conduct a crackdown on such vehicles, especially in Dubbo, to prevent cases of related accidents. As such, car owners are advised to follow safety standards when installing light bars, driving lights, and other accessories outside of their vehicles.

Reports said the police will be keeping a closer eye on cars less than five years old since these vehicles did not undergo roadworthiness check, unlike older car models. If you own a vehicle that fits this description and you're planning to set up LED light bars or other accessories in your car, make sure you refer to road safety guidelines before proceeding with the installation process.

LED light bars are a huge help when driving off road at night. They light up your path so you can avoid animals and obstacles that block your way. They can also come in handy during emergency situations. But to ensure that the CREE LED light bars won't get you into trouble, it is very important to adhere to Australian standards and other road safety rules and regulations.

Buy your LED light bars from trusted sellers to ensure your safety.
